Dancing of the Birds

So, I was sitting here quietly working and then all of a sudden there was a commotion going on outside and tons of tiny shadows coming through the window.  So, I ventured out and the birds (oh my goodness) there must have been 100’s of them.  I sat down in the rocker on the back covered porch (although beautiful, I didn’t want my obituary to read “death by flock of birds”).  It was amazing.

The dance started with all the birds in a bush/tree (how they all fit I haven’t a clue). It got very still and then there was a loud rustle and all of the birds came flying out all at one time.

Then they took turns, in a very organized manner, nose diving into the pond for a snack.  The once glass smooth surface became a whirlpool within seconds.

While taking turns having their snack, the rest of the birds peppered the sky over the pond.

Once they all had their turn, it again would get silent and as if they were keeping perfect time the birds, in one synchronized motion, flew back as fast as they could to the exact same tree.

I sat there for at least 30 minutes as they repeated these steps over and over. I’ve seen flocks of birds before, but I’ve never taken the time to watch them dance.  Life is good.
